2. The latest version of the Google Home app

For starters you'll need to ensure your mobile device is running the latest version of Google Home app, which is essential for you to finish the whole setup. If you haven't got it on your device, please go to App Store or Google Play to download and install it.

3. A Google account and Spotify account

4. Access to a secure Wi-Fi network

You must have the access to a secure Wi-Fi network or you might encounter with a SSL error from the start, thus a secure connection to the server cannot be made. What's more, you should also make sure your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google device for setup.

You can choose to set your Google Home or Nest from here for the first time. Now from here please make sure everything is set up properly. You just need to follow these steps to make a few adjustments. Then you can pick the music service you like, such as Spotify to link it to your speaker.

Part 2. How to Link Spotify to Google Home

Linking Spotify to Google Home:

1. Install and open the Google Home app or Google app on your iPhone or Android phone. When you enter the home screen for the first time, follow any steps on the screen to complete the basic setup. Please make sure your Google device is connected to the same Wi-Fi that your speaker uses.

2. Tap Account at the top right.

3. Check the same Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google Home device. If the account displayed is not currently yours, tap another account or Add another account to switch accounts.

4. Back on the home screen, tap Add + at the top left, then Music and audio.

5. Select Spotify and tap Link Account, then Log in to Spotify with your account. Tap OK to confirm.

Now you're able to use your voice to ask for your favorite music from Spotify. To do this, just say voice commands like "OK Google, Play Discover Weekly on Spotify". If your speaker might not play the exact music, you ask for from Spotify, especially if you're already paying for Premium, you must set Spotify as the default to make it work for you.

Setting Spotify as the default:

Since the Google Home app allows you to link up to 6 music services, you can link all the music subscription services you want on your Google Home speaker. But sometimes even you do link Spotify Music but leave YouTube Music as the default, your speaker might not play the exact music you ask for without your saying "on Spotify" at the end of your voice commands. So please don't hesitate to choose a default music service for Spotify to say "yes" to agree when Google Home gives you the option to do this.

Or you can follow these steps to make Spotify the default player manually:

1. In the Google Home app, tap Account at the top right.

2. Tap Settings.

3. Tap Music under services.

For starters, please ensure the minimum requirements in Part 1 to set up everything for both the Google Home speaker and Spotify Music. Then you'll need to follow the steps properly to link Spotify to your speaker. As stated, if the Wi-Fi network is not stable, you might not be able to do this.

Here's how you can check if your speaker is currently connected to a Wi-Fi network: Try to ask your Assistant a question, like "What time is it?" If the Assistant is able to answer, then it's connected to a Wi-Fi network.

You may also need to set up your Google Home speaker to fix this network issue: To do this, open the Google Home app and tap Add at the top left > Set up device > New device, and complete the setup steps.

Then you must need to unlink Spotify from Google Home to do the trick. Check the guidance above to remove Spotify from music services in the Google Home app.
