The biggest music streaming service Spotify quietly released a new standalone app called Stations for Android on Google Play Tuesday. It's a playlist-based free app exclusively to make listening to playlists and music stations more quickly and easily. Spotify describes it as "the easiest way to listen to the music you love. Totally free." However, Spotify also made it clear that Stations is just an "experiment." For now, it's only available in Australia, being tested by a handful of people.

The purpose of Stations, as the name suggests, is apparently to simplify and optimize the listening experience. This is also verified from its description: "With Stations, you can listen immediately, and switching stations is simple and seamless — no searching or typing needed.” From what we can assure, Stations is all based around playlists. Compared with Spotify, there's no searching for specific songs and no option to download albums.

Upon launching Stations, it will start playing the music and all playlists will be displayed in a large font. You can switch between them by simply scrolling the screen down. You can also Like tracks to teach the app what you like or customize which playlists appear in the main menu and hide those you are not interested in. However, no one - even Premium subscribers can Create new playlists nor Skip tracks you don't like within Stations. Like Spotify, Stations also includes the popular, individually personalized playlists such as Discover Weekly and Release Radar. And free users will still get ads while Premium users won't.

As for now, it's not officially released to all. It's even incompatible with some key Android devices yet. And the release date of iOS version is yet to known. Nevertheless, Spotify shows their care about users' request and puts efforts to easy and quick listening. Will Stations be the next most favorite music app? We'll see.
